Pierce Manaton

Pierce Manaton (1593-1667), eldest son of Sampson (1553-1627), matriculated to Broadgates Hall, University of Oxford in 1611/12. He resided at Stoke Climsland, was a captain of a trained band in Cornwall for about 20 years and an officer in the Royalist army.  He took possession of his father's lands in Stoke Climsland. Pierce married twice. First, to Margery Buller, daughter of Francis Buller of Tregarrick. By her he had four sons. Pierce married secondly Joane Mountjoy. By her, he had two sons.

 

Younger brother Richard Manaton (1602-1672/3), 3rd son of Samspon, married Grace Maister at Stoke Climsland in 1638.

It is believed that all living Manatons today were descended from Pierce or Richard.
